About Sylvia
Sylvia Ney is a freelance writer, editor, and teacher. She serves as an Adjunct Professor for the University of Texas at Austin as well as a High School English teacher.
She has published newspaper and magazine articles, photography, poetry, and short stories. Sylvia has served as a Board Member of both the Texas Gulf Coast Writers and Bayou Writers Group in Louisiana since 2012. She enjoys encouraging other writers.
Originally from California, Sylvia now resides in southeast Texas with her husband, two daughters, and miniature dachshund.
She began writing as a young child. In high school she wrote for the school newspaper, becoming Editor her senior year. She also published articles in her community newsletter and published her first poem in a national anthology by the time she was 18. Sylvia continued writing for her college newspaper, working her way up to another Editor position her senior year.
After graduation she continued her love of writing by inspiring young authors. She has taught writing for more than 15 years, sharing her love of Journalism, Fiction, Photography, and Poetry.
Some of her most recent publications include regular contributions to the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, Southern Writer's magazine, Thrive magazine, Houston Family, and Southeast Texas Family magazine. More of her works can be found on the "Publications" page.
